I didn't notice the finger up her nose, but a little elf did! Yes, it's begun. (Although I think her hand is in her mouth and it just looks like her finger is up her nose, I am willing to admit there has been a bit of finger in nose action lately.)

Miracle on 34th Street

Because we are insane, we decided to take Marlowe to Macy's on 34th for a visit with Old St. Nick. We arrived right as the doors were opening and were in and out in less than 30 minutes. It was pretty glorious, actually, although Marlowe had a vice grip around my waist and neck and wouldn't say boo to Santa. Our photos are, well, pretty hilarious. See for yourself!

Kitty Blaow

A quick one...Marlowe making nice with our friend's cat, Winston. At the end she says, "Staubitz," which is the name of our neighborhood butcher. Other new random words: paparazzi, bunny, polka dots! Sorry these posts are so few and far between lately. Autumn photos coming soon!

Marlowe loves airplanes

But naturally, she hated her airplane Halloween costume. Fortunately her sock monkey was willing to sit in for her photo ops.

We had a great Halloween! We went trick or treating (highlight: a pack of candy cigarettes, banned in NY except for Halloween time and given to us by an elderly woman who insisted that "the kids on the block demanded them!"), spent some time with friends on Court Street, got cat-called by drivers ("What airline? Can I get a bag of peanuts?"), and had friends over for sausage, braised cabbage, apple cake, sweet potato gratin, and apple pie. We even managed to carve our pumpkins this year, but took zero photos, as usual. Hope everyone had a spoooooooky day!

Pumpkin paints a pumpkin

Our local hardware store had its annual pumpkin painting party. Marlowe did a pretty good job for a first-timer, and she only got a little paint in her hair!

 

Making whoopee pies

Yesterday morning we welcomed autumn by making pumpkin whoopee pies. Marlowe helped whisk the dry ingredients but had to stop for a cappuccino (really just steamed milk) break. It's the new height of sophistication, drinking steamed milk out of a wee cup, and she wants to do it everyday. The whoopee pies are delicious, and there's nothing better than having the smell of pumpkin cookies hanging around the house all day....
